From the wei this lies on the computer screen, a cross corner looks iffy. I would need to set this on a real table to get a feel for whether I thought I could play the bank without a kiss. So, just another boring safety

This doesn't look like a kiss, but if it does kiss it's from the bottom and should result in a safety. Don't hit it too thin and a small amount of outside english will help.

this shot comes up almost every game that goes to the last balls.
you must learn to spin the cue with low outside and bank the ball over to your hole and two rail the cue ball back down by the long rail on his side.

I agree with you Beatle to a ponit. However I like the cue to be a little more towards therail that the object ball is on to try thecross corner bank. On the shot that is shown, I'm like Steve I'm kicking it out.---Smitty

joe if you must shoot a defensive shot form here just stop the cue ball and hit the object ball two rails up near the side pocket. that is the safest place on the table to leave it that you can easily get to.
your shot is to easy to hit it a touch too hard and leave a simple long bank. if i did what you want i would hit it hard and send the ball up table to the other corner pocket

If the cue ball were 1-1/2 diamonds closer to the object ball you would draw uptable. Once you get used to avoiding the kiss point its a good shot but only if it lays. I never shoot the 5 railer and stay low with whitey, if you come short you leave a cross-corner, kick, or an easy safe, if you go long you leave x-corner, side-first two-railer, or thin straigt-back with good lay down of whitey.

smitty you are right about it being much tougher from that spot and being farther over by the rail much better. so when like that just come inside the bank with inside english. just stay away from scratching in the corner or bobbling it there and the ball goes across easily.
