Freddie, this is a strange roster, indeed. In the beginning, you listed a bunch of qualities that were not considered at all, but I can't find any mention of the traits that you did examine in preparing the list. There must be at least a few things that tie these guys together. What are they? Have they all done time, been shot or spit on the sidewalk?

I'm surprised to find my gentle little giant included - Jose Parica (eye of a turkey buzzard, nerve of a house burglar, grin of a cub scout). Yesterday I was asking you about Efren Reyes, but you have ignored him here. How are those two Filipinos different? Why only one Filipino on the list? Amang may have good cause for litigation.

What about Jack Hines? Too upstanding? Lacking in larceny? Lots of loose ends here, pal. :heh

I'll say this once again, Vappy. The most important consideration is the ability of the member to accept the other members. That sounds easy but it aint so when you consider some of the members like Detroit Whitey, Brooklyn Pancho, Ray Maples, Sammy Eubank. Scoundrels and rascals all. That is probably one of the best indicators, is that you must be a scoundrel at heart.
If SJD ever saw any of those people he would probably call the police on them. :heh Efren is too nice to call the police but he might tell one of his backers to do so.

Jose Amang is in. Efren is not. Your gentle little giant, Jose would steal your eyeballs and tell you you look much better without them. A stone rascal.

I dont know Jack Hines, but from what I have heard he probably belongs, but his rep hasnt got back to me strong enough.

Beard,

I think the more stories you would hear about Jack Hines, the quicker he would be inducted into your SS.

Could you give me a short bio on a player from near my hometown that I never heard of... Michigan City Sam Langford?

Also, your list is a little biased against non-senior citizens. I think there are still a few solid hustlers running around under the age of 50. But to protect their id, I will not out them here....except for probably the most well known...Scooter. You don't have to like his style, but he definitely gets action going and knows ALL the moves.

By the way, I enjoyed the Benefit Dinner for Jet in Chinatown. On topic, I noticed, that I was sitting at the "normal" table, with a Billiards Digest writer, someone that's making a Billiards Documentary, and multiple law enforcenment officers! Quite the dichotomy between my table and the rest, lol.

Sam Trivett will go in because I had some interactions with him, 40 yrs ago. I cant speak for Jack Hines, since I never ran across him, but if I could get one more recommendation I would reconsider.

Incidentally, everybody on there aint POS. Plenty, plenty of good people and good humans. But I cant argue that there are some real creatures represented too.

Michigan City Sam

Michigan City Sam Langford had a big action bar in Michigan City, In. Many, many, road players lived with Sam, got staked, and played out of his joint. Alley Oop, Tommy the Sailor, Johnny Dollar, Canadian Pete, Robt LeBlanc, and a million other guys I cant think of at the moment.
Sam was also a very rough guy and did a 15 yrs stretch for murder. He has been out a few years and he is still around, but not in Michigan City anymore,
Our own Bill Smith stayed there once and got in a beef with Tommy the Sailor, and gave him a good conk on the noggin with a cue stick. An action that I came close to duplicating with Tommy many times. So much for the gentle side of billiard players. To make this a little worse, Tommy was fast asleep, passed out drunk at the time. The fact that Billy is half Italian might help to explain things a little better.

Freddy,

As to the inclusion of Hines, all I can say is this:

Detroit Whitey bad...Jack Hines badder.

He might actually lower the morality level of the entire group if included. He could've been Whitey's son.

It's quite the list you've compiled Fred

Wasn't implying ALL were/are POS, I said some. And some of the some are real loser/scumbags. Not all, yes, but some

Dennis gave your second recommendation for Jack Hines - Detroit Whitey bad, Jack Hines badder. This is evidently what you're looking for? Have fun being associated with some of these "real creatures" as you called them

Just to be on the safe side, don't forget to hide the women and children ... at the annual SS convention :)

Bill,

My mistake for not being more specific I guess. I was not for or against Jack's inclusion in the SS, just giving Fred my opinion on Jack, that's all.

Ok, done. Hines is in. However, the Jack Hines badder line, brought another left-out to mind. Someone who deserves to be at the top or bottom of the list, whatever one might prefer, Dallas Joey Torma.

Joey was a sweetheart. He didn't play much pool after he grew up, but was very talented when he was young, I remember seeing he and Alfie in ft. Hood when he was a bout 16 yrs or so. He fit all the other criteria when he was older. I threaten to whip his ass some years later. He said as many people as I've screwed over " I've gotten my ass whipped so many times I've gotten pretty tough" I started laughing so hard I got over being mad.:lol

I knew Joey back in the late 70's early 80's. He used to hang around Delta Downs in Vinton, La., with Bobby Pitts and Danny Jones. (Pitts played shortstop speed and hustled cards and dice). I knew Joey was a good player but didn't see him in action. He was supposed to be a pretty good one pocket player. I'm curious as to how good he was (for anyone that wants to comment). Also, is he still alive?
