NFS,

You see the same pics I see. I'd say you are fairly accurate except the 8 ball in your WEI table is the 2 ball in my pic. But I wouldn't call a man a liar for that:p .

i dont see an easy bank to win
the 8/2 on the rail aqnd the 9 are out of play
he might be able to cross side the ball on the spot but i tried to leave that shot tough

for my edification are combo banks allowed???
if the q was in a better position with 2 balls on the spot could you call the back ball 2 rails in the corner and would it count???

No,no,no,no,no. You must pocket the ball you strike first with the cueball.

Larry,

There is no law that says you have to shoot at your hole when playing banks.

No debate here

No debate here

If I was staking someone and he did ANYTHING else other than roll the 9 ball in and freeze the cue ball on the rail, that would end all interaction between us. Bank pool players that are dumping would be afraid to do anything else other than that.

I commentated on this match and Kirkwood became too aggessive with a monster lead and Jamie almost won the match from nowhere. Jamie Farrell was a protege of mine and he knows how to play banks correctly. Farrell lost the match only when he eventually weakeded and veered off course from pure bank stategy on the final game.

My guess would be the idea that sticking the CB to the rail with the 9 makes the bank on the 1 more difficult and a big chance of selling out some short banks if it is missed? I just like hitting the balls around. :D

Larry,

You need one ball to win the match. Why take any chances? You could miss the 1 ball easily. I would roll the 9 in and leave three balls on the spot and distance with the rock. Of course, that doesn't mean that's what he shot:D .

Rolling the 9 in was the first shot I saw, and it leaves only a very difficult straight back on the 1. And if Jamie missed the shot, it might leave a bank on the 1 ball for Kirkwood.

I like Larry's shot second best, providing there's enough angle to draw the CB over to the middle of the foot rail. The advantage of that leave is that there is no possible bank. The disadvantage is that Farrell would be closer to the balls, so it would be easier for him to open up the balls for future shots, and still be safe.

...There is no second best shot. You pretty much answered the reason why that is so, yourself. (see your highlighted in red sentence)
Distance is the defensive game. Distance. Distance will stop a jet plane if it doesnt have enough fuel. Distance will eventually stymie the greatest stroke in the world.

Probably due to youth and wanting to get it over with, he shot the 2 ball and missed.

...of his impetuousness. Rather than winning the match on the next shot, he gave life to Jamie who ended up coming from 3-0 to 3-3 and needing only 2 balls to win the match.

You need one, and with this simple reply he has (1)Unclogs pockets, and(2) forces you to open the balls up. Two big no-no's when you are in your end-game and he is not.

NG NFS, the shot from there would be to roll the 8 in. Nobody would shoot the 9 unless it was in the jaws. Shoot the 8 in and the guy has to hit the spotted balls and leave you a safe by rolling in the 9 ball which is what the shot was the first time.
