Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! Dennis and Larry, find us something else to do. It is what it is, gentlemen. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be . . ., etc. Yeah, I used to go to Sunday School, back before The War. :frus

Are you guys aware that the square root of two is exactly half the square root of eight? Well, it is. Can we talk?

'Fraid not, Grimel. Pool continues to suffer from pool players. However, bless you, anyway. If you intend to do something good for this game, I hope you make it work. I really do. But I think you are dreaming of making silk purses out of a bunch of . . . well, anyway. Best of luck and be well. :)

You in a phone booth is a crowd. Now, you gotta admit, this is funny. no offense, Fred.

If you couldn't tell I do NOT like Eva and Mitch. But, I don't count. What does the average Joe want to hear? Again, we have golf (one of the all time gambling sports) as a guide. Most people that don't play golf have no idea how much money changes hands on golf courses.

Yeah, the women have little behind the scenes shots, human interest stories, and lots of misses. The guys, make it look easy and have commentary on what is the best shot, then call the guy out for dogging it.

You are a commentator for pool players. Need a co-commentator that is for the average joe, like Howard Cossell was on MNF.

Ya, Cossell and Meridith. I just watched a baseball game yesterday. very boring but totally satisfying. I remember that my mother used to like to fall asleep to the voice of Earnie Harwell calling the Tigers' games.

Are you insane? Adviser maybe, need business and PR people not involved in the sport on the board for at least the first 6 years.

Oops, busted. Actually I am but I didn't know it showed. Here's my no bullshit suggestion to keep this ball in the air. We should PM eachother and those who are comfortable doing so should share their email and phone numbers with eachother. Who among us knows Greg well enough to ask him to get involved? We could use a little seed money. There are a couple of billionaires and a few millionaires who like pool. Got to go for a dental appoinment. be back this evening or tomorrow morning.

When it comes to the commentators, you would absolutely need someone like Freddy in the booth -- but for the formula I am talking about you would also need one of those straight men (or women), and then an anchor like 'Cardone that could bridge the two. The whole point is making the most of the conflicting dynamic, both in the booth and out on the tournament floor.

Ever listen to sports radio? The one I get around here -- WEEI out of Boston -- they always have two hosts in the booth (sometimes three), so that they can stir up caller interest by taking different points of view. They know that is what engages the listeners. Heck, during really off hours (they are 24/7 sports talk) when they have only one host, honest to God, that one host tries to argue with themselves! All right, that is a little silly, but it does motivate listeners to call, because you want to take a side -- everybody has something to love or hate.

Like i said for anything to come of it you have to get everyone on the same page. The players have to for a minute think what is best for the group instead of themselves. One of the problems is alot of poolplayers have zero education and rely on their street smarts to make money. To get them to grasp an intelligent business concept that may benefit their future but not give instant financial gratification could be the hardest part of this. There is an old saying....you cant make ice cream out of horseshit!! I think one thing that would help pool in a HUGE way is to find out what famous actors or athletes play and enjoy pool and appreciate what it takes to become good and somehow get them involved. The average people follow and emulate what actors and athletes do.

I know Greg & Mark, and since they will both most likely be in Vegas for the US Open One Pocket, I'll try to set up a conversation with them both involved.

Here's a thought for you. I'm pretty certain the pro golfers are forbidden, by the PGA, to play each other outside of tour events. No gambling match-ups, etc. That was one of their first rules, and probably would be necessary in the world of pool, also. Try to imagine that.

Sounds good but not true. I hear all the time when im watching golf the announcers mention that so and so got together for a practice round for a few nassaus etc. There is nothing wrong with gambling for alot of the regular people. Just go to a casino and see how packed they are in this economy..unbelievable. Look at the poker boom, you have regular people flocking to it. There is nothing wrong with gambling on pool, you just cant base your model of building a huge sport on it. This is the toughest country in the world to try and build pool as a major sport because of like I said before... NFL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR, PGA, HOCKEY, etc. there is not alot of room for pool. Do you expect major corporations or sponsors to put their money into advertising pool instead of one of the other major sports right now? no chance. Get everyone on the same page present a clean cut drug free product and than you have a chance to get some sponsors interested.

That's part of why I advocate a two-track approach -- it could be forbidden on the straight track, but obviously encouraged on the other. The other thing is the dividing lines in the rules that separate the two tracks could be tweaked to maintain a healthy competitive balance as necessary.
