The first 100 copies of The "Encyclopedia" of Pool Husters just came in. I will start signing and mailing them out as fast as I can -- (its a one-man show, so...when I say as fast as I can, I really mean it). Thanks everyone for your patience.

Beard

I will try and send them out in the order of their purchase.

"Encyclopedia" now in -going out

Many, many thanks, Freddy. I am patiently awaiting the arrival of #79, but at the same time, I can't wait to receive it! :)

Congratulations for your success in writing, editing, preparing, finalizing, and printing this book. I know there were MANY more steps than that.

You didn't have to share these stories, but I am truly grateful that you did.

Your work is very much appreciated.

Thank you,

-Blake

Got about 20 left or the 100 to put together and send out. After awhile, I ended up sending them out alphabetical in order to speed things up.

Freddie's Book is Amazing!

Freddie's Book is Amazing!

Freddie, I started reading your Encyclopedia of Pool Hustlers, and it is as big as a telephone book! It is chock full of amazing stories about every hustler I ever met or heard of. And great photos too. This is really a great read, and has so many different stories, no wonder it took you so long. I had forgotten about some of the old timers and places you talk about, but this book is bringing it all back. What a lot of fun pool hustling was back then.

Well now that you have all 100 copies delivered, you should be seeing more reviews like Carla's.

Congrats buddy, another fine piece of literary work, you may be slowly approaching our good friend George's ranks!

Just got mine today. Will start reading tonite. I took it out of the package and flipped it open and the page was - Grady Mathews. Almost like my friend was speaking to me from the other side. A very odd feeling.

Later, Pel

Freddy,

I got the book(s) today and it/they look great. I flipped mine open and it turned to the page with Lori:). Did you plan that?

I'm going to need a few more of the hardcovers when they come out, I'll e-mail you.

I think fate is stepping in here, Dennis. Pelican opened the page up to Grady, and you opened up to Lori. Believe it or not, other people have opened the book up to the person they were most interested in. The Black pool bug, Sylvester Duncan, scanned thru the book and he landed on three great Black pool players in a row!

Lori Shampo and Jeannie Balukas are the only women featured, although I do give a little play to Santa Ana Rose and Barbara Cooney.

I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

The hard cover is at least a month away. I am looking now for stake horses, just like in the old days.

Freddy,

I guess I'm the only one too dumb to figure it out so I have to ask: If you have to send out 100 books either way how does it speed things up to send them out in alphabetical order? 100 books is still 100 books, no?:p

Yep, Pel had bad luck and I had good luck:). Although I didn't know her (Lori) that well I always felt sorry that her life took the twists & turns it did.

I didn't have a chance to look at the book last night as I had to work but I will look at it tonight. Would you like to be notified of any misspellings or errors? The picture on page 302 has Joe Kerr listed as Joe Kerns.

P.S. The recipients of the other 2 books are in awe of your book and are eagerly awaiting the hardcover:).

Because I had already listed the orders in a computer file alphabetically. When I was printing the postal labels and checking off each name it sped the process up considerably.

Did you find the poem yet? And is there anybody in there that you didnt expect to be there?

I stole all those pictures. I am not responsible for the birds that didnt know who the hell was in them. You will be wasting a lot of time looking for errors or misspellings. I accumulated around 30 proof copies finding errors and having to keep changing the text.

Dennis, I could strangle you. I just went back and changed the TWO photos that called Joe Kerr, Joe Kerns (there were 2 not one). You have no idea was a horror that is to do. I have 8 different files that all have to be adjusted, and then I have to convert all those 8 files into pdf. files and then I have to re-download them to the publisher, each download is about 30 to 40 minutes. I just finished one file, 7 more to go and then the downloads. Yecch!

Beard

I am too much of a perfectionist to let it stand.

Damn, I guess I won't mention the "PornBread Red" mis-write:). Just kidding Freddy.

P.S. I saw the 2nd Joe Kerns photo a few minutes ago as I was reading the book.
