First, the NOLA crew got drowned by the new and improved Justin "The Stakehorse" Cleary. Justin is easily 2 balls better than he was last year, compliments to his player/coach Evan Lunda, who is also playing fantastic pool. I think NOLA was stuck about 150K by Monday, but made a big comeback against Scooter and Brighton for 50K on Tuesday. These are races to 4 for 30K, 40K, 50K, so money can change hands quickly. On Wednesday, the big calcutta came and as you know, blew all notions of big money out of the water as Fedor went for 40K and Alex P went for 38K, with Tony going for 31K and Roberto going for 29K. Total calcutta was nearly 290K. Upsets in Round 1:

Josh Roberts defeats #1 Blind bind one pocket king Alex Pagulayan
Billy Thorpe defeats Hennessy
Fedor defeats Roberto Gomez (not an upset but a significant match)
Frost defeats Calderon in a typical 6 hour war double hill.
Tony, D. Smith, Corey and Evan get byes
Morra defeats JHall double hill
Sergio wins easy over D. Adkins
Robert Frost wins

Round 2 action

Evan defeats Billy
Tony wins easy
Frost wins easy
D. Smith wins easy
Corey and Josh Roberts in a war
Fedor leading comfortably
Josh O'Neil giving Morra all he can handle

I watched Alex play that guy all Tues nite until way up into the day, Wed, and I had an ominous feeling he might lose his first match. Looked drained, running all those balls spotting 18-3. Brutal. Did anyone see that guy he was spotting make a ball on the break 3 times in a row?.. They played rerack...lol... Now watch Alex come back and win it...!

290,000 in a calcutta??? That is beyond wild!! That is nearly double last year's record high!!

How much of a factor has the non-smoking been?

The reports are good with it.

Everyone is used to it at tournaments so it’s not like something they haven’t dealt with before.

With that many in a tight space you know it’s better.

That was a hell of an offer on Carl Bolm’s behalf, $10,000 to make it non-smoking. 😆👍🏻
