Mark is a great guy and its too bad that the people at the APA, TAP and other leagues do not use the amateur leagues to fund pro pool like the BCAPL does.

Justin was sure not at his best tonight, He seemed ill-prepared, and a little out of it...He usually does better...Steve Booth could have covered twice the ground...Mark is a gimme, for a good interviewer, he stays sharp and focused.

SJD -

Thanks for participating in the podcast.

Let's get more people involved.

BTW- I need some input on how many people would show up in Reno for One Pocket tournament Feb. 13-17. That is Monday - Thursday. This would be at the Grand Sierra hotel.

This would be in conjunction with the US Bar Table event. In fact you could very possibly pay in both events since we will have 40 of the 7' tables and 16 of the 9' tables.

I think a fairly cheap entry with a very small added amount. There is very little money available for added money. The casino is being pretty conservative on the added money because they want to see how this first year works. My goal is to bring in as many people as we can to stay at the property.

This is a great place. 2000 rooms, no resort fee, free shuttle to airport, 20 restaurants and bars, 50 lane bowling alley. Best of all is the room rate - $39 & $49 (double occupancy). We have a ballroom with 40,000 square feet.

This is a great opportunity to make this event grow.

So-----how many of the one pocket players would support a nice one pocket event. Am open to suggestions. Could be long races. Could have some great seminars. All kinds of things.

Hi Mark,

As you know, I will support anything you do... I will definately try and combine it with a visit to my son, and grandkids in Placerville..I have many friends up there, and while I don't play any more (and I hate it !)...I will definately beat the drum, as best I can..... If need be, and your field is alittle short...the Beard wiil, no doubt, stake me to play in any One Pocket event..

Heres wishing you succsess, and the best of luck in your new venue...Sounds really neat, and should be well attended. You are really sticking your neck out, (again)...and shame on those who don't support it.

I'm sure you've thought about maybe including a worthwhile charity, ie. maybe like having a 'Pro-Am' or something). Something that doesn't interfere with the actual tournament itself (or the prize fund) The top player's really need to make themselves available for something like that.

You could hopefully round up some local "fat cats" in the community, and get them involved. (I know...more work), But, they will help immensely in promoting your event, for their cause...I know the schedule for this one, may be a little too tight for that..But maybe at the Riv, or the Rio, something like that may give you some really helpfull exposure...Just a thought..:)

Again, Good Luck,

Dick

PS..I may make it up there with my chaffuer, and bodyguard, Fast Lenny...He's usually up for anything like that...;)

I would love too of course, but that close to the Derby it is hard for me to take extra time away from my own business. The most I could do would be to make a quick trip on a weekend that close to DCC -- Mon -Thurs would be out for me.

Reno event

Reno event

SJD & steve,

I appreciate your comments.

I don't expect a lot of players from east of Mississippi.
Really shooting for the west coast guys- Sacramento has a good one pocket community and so does California Billiards.

With 16 tables, we might be able to go a little crazy and even have a bank pool event (short rack?) in addition to the one pocket.

We also could have a single elimination mini event each night.

Since it will not be a major event (no big added money), we don't need a huge turnout - just looking for a good event.

Mark Griffin

PS: Sd-I will look into the pro-am charity idea.

We could drum up quite a few one pocket players from the Sacramento/Bay area, especially if the players who also play in the other tournaments can play in both. I know this works well at DCC and would certainly add to the player count.

Let me know if I can help and I will do anything I can. We can probably even run a couple qualifiers at Hard Times and California Billiard Club if that will help.

While I probably wouldnt play, it would be great if this event was a few months AFTER or BEFORE DCC. :frus

IMO, and its worth what you are paying for it, you might have more of us midwesterners out there than you might suspect. ;)

Reno is cheap to get to and I would enjoy going to a great event.
