Here's something. I got it from Steve's father, Ken Cook.

In about 1983 Grady was running Bakers Billiards in Tampa.
Steve Cook was hot then, and he came in with a retinue,
looking to match up. However, Grady wouldn't go for any
proposition Steve came up with, so nothing happened.

The room was full of disappointed railbirds and tension for
action was in the air. Finally Grady came through. He
gave a Hispanic guy a ton of weight, then a ton of money.

Bakers had a great kitchen that served a full lunch to local
businessmen. Attached is a picture of Bakers back then.

Rodan.....Unfortunately, I was never there back in the day, but when I spent the whole winter in Fla. in 1998, I made a point to stop in Baker's - I heard there was not much action there anymore, and they were nitty, but I just wanted to see the place....it was great - I love the old time pool halls like Baker's...it had the old time lunch counter with the low swivel stools, low ceilings that you could reach up and touch, and that great old huge pool player mural on the wall...

...the second time I went in, I just barely talked one of the regulars into playing me some One Pocket - I won the first game and he quit......

...went into Fatso's a few times over the next week or two...then I went and hung at C.M. Lee's room over in Seminole for a bit...

...Rodan, are you down there in So. Fla. or used to be?

Ok, let's try this again over here where everybody can see the pics...

...Steve moved the original "A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words" thread to the Member's Only area cuz you guys had to start posting up x-rated pics in the thread......

...Seriously though, post the slut pics over in the other thread, and let's keep this one relatively clean and keep it up over here....this can be a great thread to keep adding to...

...Post up pics of your pool cue, yourself, the table you play on, your beat-list :D or whatever...

...I'll start the ball rolling with a few misc. pics...

1. Here's a pic of Jansco's where the Johnston City Jamboree's were held...don't know who that is in the pic - maybe Freddy knows?...I do know my vintage cars though, and that's a 1962 Plymouth Fury that he's got his hand on.

2. Willie Mosconi's 1950 World Straight Pool Championship trophy - tournament held in Chicago.

3. A very young Earl & Efren...the guy drinking behind them in the white jacket looks like it might be Louie Roberts - not sure.

4. A pic taken about 15 years ago of me and some of the brothers playing 'tonk' at Chris's Billiards - Chicago...that's 'Piggybanks' at the front left...old wooden pool cue lockers on the right....bad grainy pic unfortunately...

...more pics to come...

Neat pics Ghosty, always enjoy them, because many are from my hiatus...Re; the Earl/Efren photo, I would bet that was Louie Roberts...I would also bet that was a young Cole Dixon, right behind Earl's right shoulder.

I caught you Papie..:D...I read your post before you just now edited out the part about doubting my identification of that car as a 62 Plymouth Fury.....trust me Papie, I know my vintage cars, and that 62 Fury was always on my 'wish list'...but I don't want a cream colored hardtop like in the pic - here's the one that I want, it's a fu#%in' killer >>>

Miz,Cook,Hopkins and the meatman?Joe Balsis? The game of Tonk is the card version of 9-ball.You play for 1$&2$ or 2$&4$ etc.,5 cards dealt.49 or 50 on the deal you win double.Try and get low by drawing 1 card at a time, aces lowest,3 of a kind can be laid down, face up.Now he has 2 cards, usually lower than the gents with 5.There's more I cannot divulge here for less than say,10$?.Just kidding, goodnight,B

That was Eddie Taylor's car...I am sure of that, by the color. Rode into town a few times with him...nice car ! I believe it was one of the first 'front wheel drive' cars GM ever produced...but Eddie lamented, he could only get about 10-15K miles out of a set of tires on the front...

Sorry, Ghost. I’m not a Floridian. My story is, I am a total pool enthusiast,
especially for one-pocket, but I’m a lifetime B player because I never paid my
dues by working hard enough to develop any skill.

However, I have been fantastically lucky in that during 40 years of working
at temp design jobs I got to hang out and sweat the action in pool rooms all
over the country after work and on weekends. I got to see the great ones
pass through and match up.

A lot of rooms I visited were while just passing through, like Bakers in Tampa.
I hung out for longer periods at Grady’s place in Colorado Springs, the Cue
Club, Crystal Palace and Cue-Topia in Las Vegas, Rusty’s in Dallas, Woody’s in
Arlington TX, California Billiards in San Jose, Hard Times in Bellflower, Edgies in
Milpitas CA, and at Dr. Cue’s and later The Golden Fleece in Kenmore WA.

I owned a pool room in Springfield Oregon from 2000 to 2003. You can see
an outtake from my TV ad at:

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwHsUe1BPiU[/ame]

That’s Sheldon Lebow the cuemaker, on the far left in the opening scene.

I have many, many stories of things I have witnessed during those years,
and I will post some of them if people are interested. They are not really
about 1-P or any specific pool game, they are about pool players.

Best regards to all denizens of the pool, especially One-Pocket, world.

John, we would love to hear your stories, me especially, since I was a Seattlite for many years. I left right around the time Dr Cues became the room. I was there thru the old 211, Harry's Room and new 211 days. I had stopped in briefly at Dr Cues, Bernardo's on Aurora during a trip back for a few days one year.

That car was all front end and cost a fortune to fix which most guys didnt do.So it would go through tires like water.Rode like a dream, was really comfortable alot like a Buick Riv.Ya one of the first FWD I would think, had a 455 motor,swept-back lines like a 66 Pontiac GTO,wonder how many were made?I had 1 in 1978 for about 2 months. The speedometer was funny,it was like a can on a shaft that rotated as the speed went up and down, hard to describe.Never see em anymore, good times......bet he liked it,could of used it in Baltimore Bullet, too old for Color of Money.Reminds one of that car in that Burt Reynolds flic, the Bandit or something.....
