Shooters One Pocket Results
12/16/05

After weathering bad roads and low visibility, Jesse and Josh arrived at Shooters Billiards in the early hours of Friday morning. They hit some balls, checked into their hotel rooms, and after a good nights rest, it was game time!

Jesse Bowman and Dan Voeller flipped the coin and the action began. At 11 to 7 Dan seemed to be the crowd favorite but it wasn’t long before the Shooters crowd began to realize just how talented Jesse Bowman is. After winning the first few games Jesse appeared to have this match-up under control but, Dan buckled down and put up an admirable fight. To my best guess the two battled back and forth for about four or five hours before Dan decided he wasn’t interested in continuing. After a brief conversation, Jesse and Dan agreed to quit and local professional Jimmy Wetch stepped up to give Jesse a shot. When Dan and Jesse quit they stood even on games for the evening. A rumor later surfaced that Dan might be interested in playing again on a later date however; it has not been confirmed by either party.

In the second match-up trouble appeared right from the start. A discussion took place regarding the arranged match between Josh Johnson and Tony Zierman. Tony stood his ground stating that the arranged match is what he agreed to and that it was the only way he would play. Josh on the other hand refused this match-up and said he would not play unless they played without the spot. Although it appeared that one of the players would eventually give in and agree to the others terms it did not happen and the scheduled match never took place. Tony was quoted in saying “I don’t play pool for a living, I work. In my mind that’s a significant advantage in Josh’s favor however, I will play with 8 to 7 and give it a shot. That’s what I agreed to, that’s what I’m here and prepared for.” While Josh managed to find a nine ball match with local hotshot Demi Jelatus, Tony appeared content betting on Dan and Jesse and observing their match for the evening.

Demi Jelatus from the Twin Cities stepped up and agreed to play some nine ball sets with Quad Cities Champ Josh Johnson on the 9’ tables. In the first set Demi had the upper hand defeating Josh by a narrow victory. In the next three sets it was all Josh Johnson winning each of them by a comfortable margin. Demi was convinced by Josh’s performance and quit two sets down with the lesson learned. Demi stated “I didn’t play the way I had hoped I would. He plays great; I have to play better than this to win. Better to quit and try another day.”

Minnesota’s top player, Jimmy Wetch, agreed to play Jesse some one pocket even for a somewhat large sum. Not more than 30 minutes after Jesse and Dan completed their match Jesse was in another match with the very well known Jimmy and it was nothing short of amazing watching them battle back and forth. Jimmy quickly displayed a significant advantage in specific movements of the cue and object balls while Jesse showed and fantastic ability to pocket nearly any ball he shoots at regardless of difficulty. In the end Jimmy was left down six games and looking out the window at a well lit Saturday morning. Jimmy stated he felt quite rusty going into the match but had often thought how much he would like to play Jesse and agreed under less than optimum conditions because of his desires to play more. This match was, without a doubt, one of the best displays of pool ability Minnesota has hosted in recent memory. Many spectators agreed that we could use more of these kinds of match-ups in the future around the Twin Cities.

Upon completion of the Demi and Josh nine ball match, local top player Beau Runnigan offered a one pocket match to Josh and he accepted. Playing even, Beau and Josh played for most of the remainder of the evening and into the early morning. In the end Beau finished on top by two games. This win further validates that even “Road Players” need beware of the rising star Beau Runnigan.

These matches where promoted and arranged by Tony Zierman from The Midwest Casino Pool Tour and MidwestPoolInfo.com. They where hosted by Shooters Billiards in Burnsville, Minnesota. For any information on future match arrangements stay tuned to www.MidwestPoolInfo.com.
