I sense your looking to pursue this old man, if so you have to do it intelligently if you expect to torture me again.
I have found through the years that whenever you run across the unknown you handle it with caution, as I tried to do with you but failed. Not many people know how strong you play, mainly because their too much into themselves, a common mistake. I fell for that by listening to "they" you know...they say....I learned not to listen to they because they don't pay my bills, and they don't put money in my pocket, ...you know what I mean? But I made the mistake by listening to they at the Derby. Lets take a look at the matches that we played. You beat me 6 to 3 playing me 8 to 7, that's a 2/1 ratio. Then you followed that with an 8 to 5 drumming playing me 10 to 8, winning almost 62% of the games played there. So now that we're more familiar with one another we can make a game that doesn't give you such an advantage, ok? I'm not asking for much of an adjustment, I just want to go to one less ball...every other game...Instead of 10 to 8 all the time, i'll take 10 to 8 one game and 10 to 7 the next, that's an adjustment of 1/2 of a ball. Please don't tell me that 1/2 of a ball was the difference in our match, you still would of won. And please don't tell me that you can only play what your stake horses allow you to play. It's your job to convince them that you have a winning game. Try taking a little less of the money won after you win...that always helps to get staked....It's your job to sell your self.
Now please don't insult my intelligence as a player that has played and gambled for over 50 years, I should know what's up, I do remember when I was the hunter but now i'm the hunted.

fred bentivegna said:I say what I say re Artie when I get the urge. Everybody has their own opinion in this matter, as apparently even you do. What I seldom get credit for on this forum is the fact that I have played both players in question -- and all the others ones mentioned -- many times.
My last sentence re their playing in Chicago -- taken in context -- refers to the fact that the 11 to 8 thing took place in Milwaukee -- and the offer was very valid because Chicago was only about an hour away, so they were both available for a game, and all that was missing from an even game was Ronnie and a backer.
Artie never wanted to be regarded as the best player -- when he was playing -- he didnt want that notoriety. Totally unlike me, who sought credibility. It was only after he retired, and it no longer mattered monetarily that he got to bragging. Thats when I came aboard and put my 2 cents in.
Everybody else has.

Keep in mind, I hold him just as responsible as you do for not stretching out more and really testing his talents. To me it was wasteful. But that is how he did things and he was very successful doing it. I guess we are all put together a little differently.
Plus he aint the only top player that didnt step out the way I would have if I had had their talent. And dont get me started on how many super top guns never bet their own. That's a charge you could never make against Artie. For the record, the only time I ever saw Bugs bet his own it was against me and I beat him even for $400 at 30 a game.

I think you & I both feel pretty much the same way about AB vs. RA especially since you watched their "Match Of The Century" (as did lll).
P.S. So-called "players" who walk into a room and can't bet their own can kiss my ass, they aren't even poolplayers to me.

Rod, pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. He's not really a wizard
You make a pretty good argument however our first match we played on stream we were both uncomfortable and both played horrible. You had me 2 to 0 the 2nd set and you were within a ball of winning the set and breaking even on 2 different occasions. Than we played 10 to 8 and i played my best and once again alot of games came down to one ball. You said you were nervous in the match and you wished you could of taken your practice game to our match. Meaning you know if you play your game you are supposed to win. Im not anywhere near being a top player. I dont practice and im not really interested in pool when im home. I have been home from the Derby for 17 days and have been to the poolhall once. There is probably only a handful of players that can give you 10 to7 10 to 8(and you know thats true) and your asking the lowly Hacker to give you a game that only the top players in the world can give you. Really Billy?
Hacker, the second set we played we both played our game, which I lost 8 games to 5 games, say what you want but you can't dispute that I lost all three sets that we played and they were not even close. Furthermore you have my game over rated, you said the best players can only give me 10 to 8 10 to 7....not close....the best players can give me at least 10 to 6. I was playing Frost and Joyner 5 years ago 11 to 7 and splitting out, today I play 9/7 under that speed.
I'm just trying to gamble and enjoy myself, which is evident with my win loss record, losing 75% of the time that I play. I can't make you play me if your scared, which I think you are but what confuses me is...what are you scared of? You really don't think i'm miraculously going to turn into a decent player, do you? If so then there nothing neither one of us can do to convince us to continue playing.
I was going to take a vacation to either Fl. or Ca. I guess it's California.:sorry
Dr. Bill
We would love to have you visit us in Fla. There are plenty of people for you to play down here. By the way are you saying that you now need 12 to 6 to break even with Cliff or Scott?
I need 12 to 6 from Frost to have any kind of a chance, Cliff plays 8/7 at least under Frost. Probably can play Cliff 10/6, tough game.
I'm not looking to hustle pool in Fi. or any other state, just looking to do a little gambling and play a little pool, plus vacation, eat good food and relax.
