The situation is Alex up 3 games to 2 and down 4 balls to 1. It's Parica's shot from here(to pocket 'B'). What would you do?

Since Jose had a 3 ball lead, I doubt that he did anything crazy, like 2-railing the 4-ball, or cutting the 13-ball. He may have just done something conservative like this: ~Doc

doc you beat me to the weii. i was stumped looking for something spectacular which often is what these level players come up with but the only "tough" shot i saw was if he tried to draw behind the 9-3 after hitting the 2. it would have to be hit harder but it looks like he can see the bottom of the q although hes alittle jacked up making it harder.

Who's on first? ;) No, that's the shot I intended to show. From the layout, I think Jose will be bunting. He can definitely take advantage of the 2-9-3, and moving the 4 and the 5 to Alex's side will help ensure that Alex does not have a shot with those five balls this inning and will be something Alex will have to deal with for the remainder of the game, until he can figure out how to clear traffic. From here, Jose could be forcing Alex to deal with the 6-13, and personally, I don't think it will be two or three innings before Jose is out of this trap and still with a 4-1 lead.

Knowing Alex's firepower, I'm looking for something that doesn't tempt him :)

With a four-one lead in balls, Jose could give up a ball with an intentional (like page one in my wei), or as I see it, he could slide off of the 14 ball and drop to the bottom rail, probably without giving up a ball (page two). The latter choice further clusters up Alex's side, and should'nt give up much. It looks like even if the angle off the 14 was such that Jose bumped the 11, he would be bumping it on the correct side -- at least that is how it looks from here (wei).

Here's what Parica shot. Maybe he could not see the 2 ball or maybe he didn't want to leave a bank. I just looked at it again and it looks like he had a path to it(2 ball) but the t.v. sometimes makes things look different. He ran the 11, 7 and 14 after this shot.

...which illustrates how the right shot for somebody -- one of the top shot-makers in the world over the last 20 years -- might not be the right shot for a lesser shooter, like me :)

Necessary? Definitely not necessary. I'm sure we could look at this layout here a figure out multiple bunt type shots.

Good idea? Well, I don't know w/o being able to tell the future :) but it's definitely an easy shot to execute. Nothing is going to be moving too fast.

In a spot like this, up 4-1, I wouldn't worry too much about moving 2 balls to the side rail. From there, they will not be imminently makeable for either player, I would think. And, to reinforce the point, it does create problems for Alex, not having a clear shot to his hole from a large area of the table and not having open banking lanes. Similarly, moving the 4 opens up banking lanes to Jose's hole, which he could take advantage of with Alex's hole looking like a freeway at rush hour :)
