This came up in practice tonight and I think the only thing to do here is to start the fight over the 8 ball. I stuck with it for over an hour trying different options and following them two shots out. I found nothing very good.

Three-railing the 8 is a cue ball gone wild shot. The angle is very bad. If you make it, great. You only need one...with nothing to do at a table length away from the hangers at the other end. If you miss, you might give that ball to him on a free bank in return. Anything you do short of making the 8 gives him a free shot at it.

What do you do? I couldn't find anything with the 5 or 11 that held up, either.

Score is 6-6. Pocket B has the shot.

Skin,

All depending on the exact angles involved, I would attempt this shot.

Well being that the eight is behind the line--I know this might sound crazy but how about following the eleven with the qball putting two balls on the spot and forcing him to only shoot at them; if your the better player you may have the edge here regardless of the fact you lost a ball --if not you have to figure out a way to get back up top by pocket A with the qball--leaving it down table will leave a 1 rail bank on the eight.

That shot is as good as any. Or make the 5 ball with a lot of english and but the cue ball on the side rail By the Qouistion mark. But The kick shot would be ok. Thier Isnt much her to work with.

Dennis, that is a good shot. I tried it, however, and just followed up when I missed the hole by sinking the 11 and leaving an easy corner hook on all the balls. He's kicking for his life now.

Fanny,

Just set up the 5 ball about a ball and a half from the rail. Then hit it firm with draw and you won't scratch. This is a standard one-pocket shot. Either when you are trying to make it in your pocket, or when trying to move it from your opponents pocket.

Fanny, I did not try following the 11 ball in. I will. But it seems to me you are leaving the standard two ball spot shot by doing it, and that is to the shooter's advatange.

Fanny,
I still remember the first time I saw this shot, (as a take out shot). It was back in '77 or '78 at the Cue Corners poolroom in Romulus, Mich.. A guy named Dave Hayes was playing a guy named Tommy "From Mr. 9 Ball". They were playing for $50 a game and one of them shot this shot. It was an eye opener for me.

I just threw it out there --- I really like Dennis's shot----- on a real table before this shot I would probably pocket the eleven and try to get the qball as close to the five as posible without selling out --the eight 0ne railer is tough from that spot.
Well time for bed everyone---chat tomorrow
XOXO

This is what I finally decided on - the bunt. I don't want the 8 out there for him to shoot at and want to keep the placement for the 3-railer if I get a better angle on it. Pocket A's shot next.

Here comes ole safe ass Jay. I would probably come off the left side of the eight ball, banking it softly to the head rail and bring the cue ball down table (two rails) to the end rail, as close as I can get. I'll let my man shoot from there and try to figure something out.

No one on here ever agrees with me, but that's how I roll anyway. I'm NOT going to take any chances on selling out the game or even one ball. I'll let my opponent take all the chances from here if possible. I like the end rail to end rail leave, and let him try to shoot from there. It's hard for him not to leave me a decent bank.

Patience is a virtue in One Pocket. You don't have to shoot at your hole every turn.

jay seems we see similar shots. i saw that shot but would have thinned the 8 alittle more to leave it more on my side.

next i thin the eight and leave you on the foot rail about a diamond from pocket b. ill let you let fly the 3 railer with distance on my side. p.s. dennis's shot is THE shot to me. its easy to execute. fanny with practice there is no scratch. i bet fanny if the pockets were reversed and the 5 was near your opponents hole you could remove it that way without scratching

I like leaving my opponent long as well, but would not move the 8 from my side. That's my opponent's job. This looks fairly easy to execute. Opponent probably moves the 8 after this, but he's has to deal with it, and if you put whitey on the rail, then he will have to figure out a way to move the 8 and beat a kiss, I imagine.

In fact, I know what I would shoot from here if I were my opponent, and it wouldn't involve a possible kiss.

I forgot to mention in my layout yesterday that some of us made need to use a bridge to kick the 5 the way I showed. And also, possibly on Senor's shot above. This would make the kick much tougher. But Senor's shot would still be a good shot with a bridge.

Being 6'3" helps with situations like this but is hard on the ole' back.

You're right about that, Dennis. I stretched and miscued a couple of times trying both of those shots.

I didn't know your shot before. Discovered it while I was putzing around. I made it in the B hole about 1 in 4 times. Maybe with practice that percentage will improve. I finally decided before I packed it in that the guy who puts a ball in play in this layout has the disadvantage (with me shooting, of course :) )

Skin,
How true this is and a great method and way of thinking; I have tried it a few times but I'm ashamed to admit I don't always remember to do it. I really like Dennis's shot and i wish I had a pool table home to try it now but I have to wait till tuesday; but this is a definite to put in the memory bank.

Fanny

P.S ---and about that bridge Dennis----I have had many lost battles with the bridge; we are sworn enemies
