Well, I had been on a bit of a winning streak over the last month or so (playing a few hours at a time on a Saturday or Sunday only), but they snapped me off yesterday :frus
I was getting 9-7 from someone I have played that way before a few times (I won the first time, he won the second time and we broke even the 3rd time) so it was a good game and I knew I had to play good to win.
The frustrating part is that I had a chance early in the first set to win. I was the first to the shot twice but either missed the ball or got one and done. So instead he took the early lead, got more confidence and momentum and ran over me.
On a side note and something I wanted to ask others here is about the spot. After I lost the first set, I still wanted to play but felt I had the worst of it so I asked to adjust and I would play another. He gave me 10-8 and the breaks. I was hesitant at first because now I have to go to another ball and I don't run the balls anywhere close to as good as he does. But I did like the idea of getting to break every game and never letting him break so I took the bait and lost that set 4-0 (was ugly) and as I played worse he played better like it always goes. We were racing to 4 for $100.
Anyways, my 2 part question is this:
1) Although the spot in the 2nd set seemed better, with me having to go to an extra ball, is it really that much better?
2) I have not heard of this one before but he said since I got the breaks I had to alternate pockets and not break to the same one every game. I agreed and although it did not change anything really, (in fact my breaks to the opposite pocket were very good ones), I just wondered is that a standard practice or something he just made up on the fly to increase his odds? He said that's the way you are supposed to do it...
Oh well, time to start my new winning streak later today or next weekend!
