If someone knows how to do a poll or a ratings system we can assign values, go for it. Winners of MOT is full credit. Non sanctioned tournaments receive 50% maximum of MOT’s. Regional winners, 60% maximum of MOT’s. You can assign values as an opponent, as a participant in the tournament, or by viewing one of the free streams.

Points can be adjusted but it could work something similar to this:

Official Annual MOT
1st: 100 pts
2nd: 75 pts
3rd: 50 pts
4th: 25 pts

Any other MOT / Regional
1st: 50 pts
2nd: 35 pts
3rd: 25 pts
4th: 15 pts

Any of the main Tournaments where pros can and will enter
(Derby, Buffalos, Scotty, US Open, Big Dog, Big Tyme Classic, West Coast Challenge)

Whichever member goes the furthest in the tourney: 50 pts
If anyone places in top 4 you get bonus points:
  • 1st: 30
  • 2nd: 20
  • 3rd: 15
  • 4th: 10

Anytime a member matches up with another member on their own time/session
Member who wins: +5 pts
Member who loses: -5 pts

Would be fun to keep track of in a given year.

thoughts?

The last part of your idea reminds me of those challenge list, but in those the better player on paper doesn’t get as many points for playing players below them...which I liked, this way it doesn’t simply become a “who wins the most”, and more of a “who have you beaten” scoring system. Maybe give bonus points for beating someone above you on the list? The higher up the list, the more bonus points?

Continuation of last post:

Example

Example Ratings
1 Warren 765 pts
2 Dr Bill 655 pts
3 Pilot 600 pts
4 Nic 400 pts
5 NH Steve 370 pts
6 JR Hendy 360 pts
7 SQ48 340

If SQ48 plays Pilot and wins he gets a 5% bonus, which is equal to 5% (for example) of Pilots points, or 30 points. If Pilot wins, he gets a bonus equal to 5% of SQ48’s pts, or 17 points.

Maybe a different % would be better but you get my point.

I like it YTK...whatever the best way to do it (point based / percentage based), I like where you beat someone above you and you get more points than if they are below you in the ratings

I can think of a few problems with my idea already...same players repeatedly playing each other for example..need to make it about quality not quantity. Another issue would be timing. Someone who is ranked too high for example would be fresh meat for a while, until the standings change, so depending when you play him the points would vary. We’ll need a better approach. See next post...

We do a round robin with 50 players for example and make a spreadsheet and everyone starts at zero. You earn a point for each player you beat. Past matchups should be used initially until an actual match can be played. This will quickly give us a ranking, and give the ranking some life initially. Maybe tomorrow I’ll post a small 5 player grid as an example.

Remember this is for OPOrg members for fun. It’s not an exact science. We know who the top players are and Warren knows he is near the top because he comes with him to the tournaments.

I think just like with pros, we probably have 3 "tiers" of members (top tier, middle and lower), I am probably in the lower middle or upper lower section somewhere if I had to guess. There are some members I can give a ball or 2 to and some members who can give me 2 or 3 balls and some even more...

Well, I think we could probably develop an algorithm for rankings if we wanted to. We could start by making sure we record scores when we submit match results in our events. I would think some juggling and cross-referencing of that kind of data could spit out a somewhat dynamic ranking...
