I know your not going to believe this....but I actually missed Your #19, and Fred's #20 ...sorry. Good to know there are now 2 1/2 voices of reason.

PS I was pre-occupied with two 60 year old whiney cats.

And I had just put your picture up on my dartboard when I read this. Damn.

Rather then just focusing on the age. I think its important that we get people who desierve it and have a history behind them. Ronnie called me and said it would be a great Idea to get 16 older players to play in las vagas and have Tv or whoever wants to sponsers the tournement. To get all the players to put up 1 thousand dollaers for the tournement. And I said maybe someone will pay each player 5 or ten thousand dollaers for playing in the tournement. And it could be legends or hall of famers or just a great pool caracter. Like Harry Platus and make a list of names. Who will play and let the players vote on who should be in it. You could make a board of Grady Ronnie Freddy Squarell SJD Dannie Delaberto Eddy Kelly Pittsburg Billy and one more in case of a 4 to 4 vote. 16 players would work very well. And someone could take a picture of all 16 players. And it will go down in history. And sell individual pictures and dvds of the games. And extra photos. And it could be held in one of the big casinos in Las Vagas. THis was Ronnies Idea not mein. I think it could work. And If we get a sponser who wants to pay all the players for comming. Everyone would be a winner. And maybe fat boy has some Ideas too. BUt If we get sponsered it could turn out real good. And all the foucus would be on the 16 players. This is what I think would be great. If we can put it together. And Ronnie said he had someone who would put up money for this tournement. I just thought this would be a good time to bring it up. We can make it happen or we can let it pass us by. And dont just foucus on the age . Foucus on making it great and a memorey for life. And as we get older the pictures will be more valuble. Because of all the history the players will have.

Go for it Artie! You live in Vegas and have time on your hands. You find a casino to host it and let RA come up with a sponsor and I'll help you put it on. Kelly, Grady, Harry, Diliberto, Ronnie, Bob Osborne, You, Henderson, Dickie-do, Joey A., Billy, that's a pretty good start. I'm sure we could find sixteen competitive players. I'll be the TD just so I don't have to get embarrassed by these guys.

Finally, a logical response. I agree with you Billy and realize now that it would pobably not work in the context of a yearly get together.
I knew, when I brought it up, there would be the usual cast of naysayer's, but I did not think it would be so hotly contested by some.

I am now working on height, weight, IQ, and number of surgical procedures, as a possible way to gain an edge. Age discrimination did not work !

As a last resort, I may try high-rolling. (thats worked a few times)

Dick <---actually is a virgin...is also lesser skilled, and old,....but will damn sure play !

You're funny Dick. Billy gave you the same answer as me and his response is "logical" and I get called a "carney" for suggesting your plan is unworkable. Ha Ha

Just got off the phone with Greg Sullivan and he says he would be up for our little deal. He asked me if I would run, name, front, and organize it. I didnt give him an answer. He also said that it would probably have to go on as a late event. Midnight. That doesnt sit well with me as I usually go to bed now around 9pm. How does midnight sound to everybody else? I personally think that even if we started that late we would need at least two nights to finish it off, figuring about 5 hrs a night for a 16 player board. A bigger board might not work out at all.

The Rascals of the Road Senior One Pocket Event?

I'd suggest to Greg that this event would work better and could be accommodated, because of the small field, by playing the matches at Noon each day.

I will let you know what casino and we can go from thier. I dont think that all these players should be second choice over the dcc players. When they have more credentiasls and caracters. And playing at midnight. I take it as a insulte. And whoever wants to tell it to crig sullivan. Can tell him I said it. I remember when he use to hid behind the posts up at north shore watching me play. And he wouldnt bet a nickle that he was alive. I take it as a insulte and its disrespectfull. To have some micky the mope tell pl;ayers who ran the pool world for the last 50 years to play at midnight. He should run his tournement at midnight. To me that is a insulte and completly unexceptable. But its not just about what I think and say. But dont you people think that you have been taken advantage of long enough. I knew thier was a reason why I didnt oplay in tournements. Know I know for sure. We may be old but we are not second hand merchandise. I woult tell him to forget about it. I hope he doesnt think he is doing you people a favor. Let you play at midnight like a dog when everyone is sleeping. These players were all somebody. And you treat them like they are nobodies. And to play when everyone is sleeping. THats the joke of the year.

You nailed it Artie. And no "Micky the Mope" has anymore to say about it.

Dick,

You are seeing insults where none exists. Just my way of agreeing with the A-man.

Dick is referring to Sullivan being Irish, Dennis and it was AB's quote not yours.

The Derby City tournament might not be the best time for a senior event, desptie the crowds and the players already there -- just because their schedule is already so jammed -- unless by some miracle the hotel has added a few thousand square feet since last year. Greg & crew have that facility max'd out. The midnight suggestion should not be taken as a knock, it is just the reality of how jammed their schedule is. Midnight was when Fatboy ran his invitational last year there -- it was all that was available.

Another possibility might be some kind of single elimination format that stretched out across more of the week, so it did not use so many tables. Or talk to the actual DCC tourney desk guys to see if a day late in the week might have less demands on the main tourney tables, as the 9-ball field dwindles. That would put the Senior One Pocket late in the week.

It seems like the Action room might be appropriate for some of the matches -- especially if there was extra money on certain match-ups. Even if Pat Fleming did want to film any of the senior matches -- which I think he would -- again, his DCC schedule is pretty packed already.

That's the way to look at it, Steve. The casino is not as big a place as the old hotel (less tables). The tables are all accounted for up until midnite or 1 am. Artie, Sullivan isnt trying to disparage or demean anybody. He is a genuine pool nut and tries to accomodate everybody. A better solution to think about, is to play the matches between 9am and 12pm. Three hours when there would be tables available. Personally, my plate is going to be very full there, I will have a selling booth, gonna play in the bank tourn., and will probably do a little commentating for accu-stats. Midnite would be very hard on me. That's why I quit playing in the Onepocket tourn. because of the time demands. Once we decide what we want to do, Sullivan will try to get it done for us. I can hold him to his word.

9 A.M. seems like a good time to me. After all most of us older guys get up early anyway-- except for Dick, who never misses a "last call". Of course if it's a senior's "legends" exhibition format rather than a senior's open, I'll be disinterested. However, I'd be happy to buy the commemorative DVD.

Doc,

I thought you swore off the "Ice Derby ? We sure would not want anybody like you to be left out of a senior event. (see "Senior Tourn,Rejuvenated")

If it could be held in Vegas sometime when its under 100, (sweater weather) you would make it there wouldn't you ? ;)

PS Doc, I haven't closed a bar in 15 years, and I'm up at 5AM everyday (truth)

Bill,

I see that now. Thank you. I did not know that it was an ethnic slur. I have none of those in my arsenal. I thought it was a generic term. Now I know better and won't use it again.

Please, please, I'm not that sensitive guy's. I do believe I was in my late teens before I realized that "Goddamn-mick" wasn't one single word.
It's no different then when we used to ask the Italian's "Hey, what sound does a tomato make when you throw it at the wall" ?
Remember Fred ? (for those too young to remember the answer was, "WOP") There was a time either one could instigate fisticuffs.

That's odd, I was also in my teens when I looked up dumbpolock and could not find it in the dictionary.

Vegas? Senior open 1P? I'm in. I'm done with snow and ice. I stand corrected about the late night partying crack. Years back, I was always up at 5 A.M. myself. I hadn't been to bed yet!
