Ok folks, in my local area we don't have a hall with enough 9' tables to do anything. I have a strange idea about having a small one pocket event on bar boxes using an 11 ball rack. Have heard of this being played but not as a tournament.
Just looking for something different. Feasible?

Thanks for your thoughts, Pel

What's the harm in trying it?

Hey Pel-- It's a good idea. I may have mentioned to you that a few years ago Greg from Diamond contacted a bunch of us to try out 1P on Diamond 7' Smart Tables. His thinking was that, since there are large rooms in the Northwest who have only 7' tables, he wanted to see if it was feasible to try 1P leagues on the smaller tables.

I practiced 1P on the Diamond 7' a little while, and found it to be an enjoyable game. Like you mentioned, I used an 11 ball rack. It's not nearly as good as on the 9', but when 9-footers aren't available.... The game was different-- more clusters. But it otherwise played essentially the same. I tried a 9-ball rack version, but didn't care for it. The break was weird.

Also bank pool on a 7' is played somewhat in Nawlins. It's probably a good action game. As a matter of fact, Joe L. probably used to hustle banks on the 7-footers...:D

'preciate the comments. Doc, I think I may try it when it cools off a bit more and folks are not so involved in outside activities. Hope you consider trying to play.

Unfortunately I've been trying to play for several years now, but it just ain't working...:D

But I might give it a shot. I'm sure you'll let us know if you fire up an event. You know that Col. Bille will try to come over there to snap ya'll off.

Willie Jopling's break for 9-ball One Pocket

Willie Jopling's break for 9-ball One Pocket

Bill Marshall's opening break for nine ball One Pocket. If you know how to shoot this two-rail break shot and your opponent doesn't, it gives you a huge advantage on your break!

The game is played just like standard One Pocket, except that with only nine balls, the first player to score five balls wins. It should also be noted that just like regular One Pocket, there is no requirement to shoot the balls in order!

Seeing that diagram makes me wonder if that break shot would also work with the 11th ball placed in the middle of the back row in 11 ball one-pocket. It would be in the exact same position, so it ought to react the same. If so, the placement might have to be changed.

Yes you're correct, however, you will now have a problematic cue ball after contacting the 11th. ball but if it goes into the pocket you'll be in business.
